Phillip War Love War Volume 3 Rachel Muller Roseanna M White 9781536961546 Books

Rachel Muller bravely delves into the mind of a man with post-war PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder). With the main character being Phillip and because of the war waging within him, you will find this book a bit different from the first 2 in the series. But, hang in there through the tough topic and be rewarded with a great ending. One of the things I like most about Rachel's fictional books is the REALITY that is portrayed in them. I admire an author that doesn't just provide fluff & entertainment but a story that is authentic. Thank you, Rachel, for doing the research and work to make this a historically accurate fictional story and for dealing with the tough topic of PTSD, a disorder that affects many and is not talked about nearly enough.

Phillip's War #3 Love and War Series***** by Rachel Muller

...1944...Saipan, Marianas Island...Marine Phillip Johnson survived the war but to what cost? What he and his men experienced—devastation, unbelievable horror & more—will forever flash through his mind even as he strives to forget. We don't actually read a lot of details of what he saw/experienced, which I am thankful for, but it is obvious it scared him and would mark him for life. In addition to bringing home unwanted memories of the grizzly war, he has a secret—Palmo. How long can he keep his secret...secret?

...1946...Arbor Springs, Maryland...Libby Johnson is excited her husband, Phillip, is coming home! It was a touching, emotional scene at the train station when Libby and Phillip embraced for the first time since the war—I remember when my Navy husband came home on leave years ago, how it felt to finally hold him tight after a long absence (thankfully not from a war), I am sure Libby felt it even more so. Libby had hopes everything will be normal now that Phillip is home from the war. However, she soon watches her husband as he battles an inner war, one that will impact their marriage, his family, life and maybe their faith.

The war Phillip is battling within his mind is clear on the pages and chapters that follow. We watch as Phillip tries to hide his nightmares and panic attacks from Libby and those around him—sometimes I think even from himself. But it continues to escalate as he tries to push it away. Eventually he is unable to sleep, reason and attempts to drown the grizzly memories in strong drink. Finally his nurse sister, Maggie and her husband Danny come to the devastating conclusion, Phillip is suffering from “shell shock” (what is now termed PTSD). It was hard to watch Phillip go through such heartbreaking mind-battles and how it not only affected him but Libby and his family and friends. I cried along with Libby as she struggled to understand what is wrong with Phillip and what to do to help him.

Phillip's War will take the reader on an emotional roller-coaster ride, through tears—of sadness and joy—horrific war memories of a grizzly war and its effects, secrets, forgiveness, strong family ties and love, love and strong faith. I love the strong spiritual element in the story of God's unfailing love and grace. We see the spiritual struggles Libby and Phillip have and I love the way godly friends and family pray for and with them both. It is great to revisit some of the characters from the first two books in the series tying all three books together nicely. A fantastic, heartwarming story that will remain with the reader for some time.

~I received an ARC of this book from the author (no monetary gains were exchanged), this is my honest review~
A solid story brimming with empathy for those who experienced the horrors of World War II and captivating insight into the initial understanding of PTSD. This ending novel in the Love and War series ties together stories of three different couples that readers will not want to let go.
Very nicely done.
I loved it - she really dealt with what happens when someone comes back from war and just can't deal with all the horrible things they saw and probably had to do - without God's help it is really a very hard thing to overcome - well done and well written!!
Phillip's War is the 3rd and final installment in the series "Love and War". I enjoyed reading this book as well as the two before it. If you love the World War II era, then I guarantee you will fall madly in love with the Love and War series from Rachel Muller.
This book was very good although it was a little different than the other 2. All 3 books in the series were very good and I am sorry to see it end. I hope to hear more from Rachel Muller.
The greatest generation is dying off. We have no idea what these men faced on the battlefield and brought home with them. Rachel Muller is an excellent writer and brings this to the forefront. Her characters are well developed. Read the synopsis. If you are interested in reading something new and out of the box, I recommend Phillip's War
